Dynamic Behavior of Tcp-like Window Control and Throughput Performance

چکیده
In this paper, we consider a TCP-like sliding window control with delayed information. We propose a deterministic fluid-flow queueing system which represents a situation where many T C P connections share a bottleneck link of ATM networks. We provide various properties of the transmission rate function (which is a function of time) to ensure that, with the analytical model, we can compute the throughput performance of T C P over ATM networks. Numerical results show that the synchronization of TCP window control yields heavy degradation of the throughput performance. Further we observe that the throughput is not a continuous function of the peak rate and there exist some regions where the behavior of the throughput has different characteristics. Such complex behavior of the throughput is caused by the complex behavior of the window control.

Analyzing Steady State and Transient State Performance of Transmission Control Protocol in the Internet
The Internet uses a window-based congestion control mechanism in TCP (Transmission Control Protocol). In the literature, there have been a great number of analytical studies on TCP. Most of those studies have focused on the statistical behavior of TCP by assuming a constant packet loss probability in the network. However, the packet loss probability, in reality, changes according to packet tran...

Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...

With the exponential growth of hand-held devices like smart phones and tablet computers, a deep investigation of TCP performance in cellular networks is becoming increasingly important. In this paper, we conducted extensive measurements over the 3G/4G networks of four major U.S. carriers as well as the largest carrier in Korea and discovered a significant problem: the bufferbloat in cellular ne...
متن کاملOn TCP Performance in Multihop Wireless Networks
This paper studies TCP performance over static, ad hoc networks that use IEEE 802.11 protocol as the access method. Our study reveals some interesting results. First, there exists an optimal value for TCP congestion window size, at which the TCP throughput is maximized. However, TCP does not operate around this optimal point, and typically grows its window much larger; this leads to decreased t...
متن کاملEvaluating Multipath TCP Resilience against Link Failures
Standard TCP is the de facto reliable transfer protocol for the Internet. It is designed to establish a reliable connection using only a single network interface. However, standard TCP with single interfacing performs poorly due to intermittent node connectivity. This requires the re-establishment of connections as the IP addresses change. Multi-path TCP (MPTCP) has emerged to utilize multiple ...
